I giganti sono due enormi fantocci di cartapesta.Mata,la bella principessa indigena dagli occhi grandi e dalla pelle rosata,e Grifone,il principe turco,moro innamorato.I giganti vengono portati in giro per le vie del paese in feste particolari,ciascuno sulle spalle di un uomo di cui si intravedono appena le gambe.Al suono cadenzato dei tamburi eseguono una danza di corteggiamento,destando la curiosità dei bambini.Mata,nella danza,cerca di sfuggire all’attenzione del moro innamorato.Ora gli gira le spalle,ora indietreggia all’avanzare del principe,ora,colta di sorpresa,gli va incontro fino a sfiorarlo,mentre il suono dei tamburi si fa sempre più serrato e più alto. Originariamente erano costruiti da un'ossatura di vimini e legno rivestita con abiti in tessuto.I due giganti fanno parte di un’antica tradizione calabrese.La tradizione dei giganti Mata e Grifone è una rappresentazione folcloristica affascinante che celebra la storia e la cultura calabrese. Now she turns her back on him, now she retreats as the prince advances, now, caught by surprise, she goes towards him until she touches him, while the sound of the drums becomes increasingly tight and loud. Originally they were built from a wicker and wood frame covered with fabric clothes. The two giants are part of an ancient Calabrian tradition. Les géants sont deux énormes marionnettes en papier mâché. Mata, la belle princesse indigène aux grands yeux et à la peau rosée, et Grifone, le prince turc brun amoureux. Les géants sont portés dans les rues du village lors de fêtes spéciales, chacun sur les épaules d’un homme dont on ne voit à peine les jambes. Au son rythmé des tambours, ils exécutent une danse de cour, suscitant la curiosité des enfants. Mata, dans la danse, essaie d’échapper à l’attention du Maure amoureux. Parfois, elle lui tourne le dos, parfois elle recule à l’avancée du prince, parfois, prise par surprise, elle va vers lui jusqu’à le frôler, tandis que le son des tambours devient de plus en plus serré et fort. À l’origine, ils étaient construits à partir d’une ossature en osier et en bois recouverte de vêtements en tissu. Les deux géants font partie d’une ancienne tradition calabraise.
